Sprayers

Airless Sprayers atomise coatings by forcing the product through a small tip opening at very high fluid pressure. The fluid pressures range from 1200-3600 PSI. Airless sprayers are capable of spraying larger surfaces at higher speeds. Airless sprayers have more overspray than HVLP which is the amount of product that does not adhere to the surface you are spraying.

HVLP sprayers are classified as a finishing tool. The pressure from the cup supplies paint to the gun, where a high volume of low pressure air intersects with the paint stream breaking the paint into small particles called atomization. Since the spray pressures are much lower, the atomized paint has less bounce back. This means less overspray and better control.

The iSpray attachment, which will spray unthinned coatings including acrylic paint and stains, is ideal for big surface projects such as spraying walls, sheds, fences etc… It will provide a roller-like or slightly stippled finish.

The Standard spray attachment is your all-round attachment for a variety of paints and stains. It can be used both indoors and outdoors, where more control and a smoother finish is desired over the iSpray attachment.

When cleaning, use the appropriate cleaning solution (warm, soapy water for latex materials; mineral spirits for oil-based materials). Always check the back of the paint container for appropriate cleaning solution.

Electrostatic

An electrostatic field is generated between the electrode in the gun head and the grounded work object. The paint particles are charged and attracted by the grounded object. This effect increases the efficiency significantly compared to non-electrostative systems. The “wrap-around” effect allows the operator to paint items such as pipes or hand rails without changing position.

Wagner has developed a unique multi-swirl system. As paint passes through the nozzle it starts a swirling motion. This produces a soft spray pattern with an increased “wrap-around” effect.

HEA (High Efficiency Airless)

HEA stands for High Efficiency Airless which means that the pump will have 55% less overspray than standard airless sprayers.

Yes the HEA sprayers can be used indoors and outdoors.

There are two kinds of HEA tips, those that fit the Control Pro range of sprayers (identifiable by the octagonal tip shape), as opposed to the HEA Pro Tips (identifiable by the more ’rounded’ tip shape, and are for use on other airless sprayers, such as Prospray, SuperFinish and more).

The two types are not interchangeable – please ensure you are using the appropriate tip for your model. If unsure, please view the ‘Accessories & Parts’ page for your specific sprayer.

Different tip sizes will output more or less paint, in a a variety of spray fan widths. It is important to match an apropriate tip size to the type of coating being sprayed. For more information on tip sizes, please see the tip sizing chart in the ‘Tips & Filters’ category.

Control Pro

If this unit was turned off under pressure (while in the spray setting), an airlock can occur. To release the air lock, switch unit to off, turn  switch to PRIME, press gun trigger.  Switch back to spray and turn unit on.  If Unit still doesn’t spray, switch off, and disconnect spray gun from handle to release pressure.

It’s multipurpose oil that can be used to lubricate the sprayer. Examples are: 3-in-one oil, 10W30 motor oil, vegetable oil, sewing machine oil, or air tool oil.

The Control Pro sprayers will spray water or oil-based paints and stains. Do not spray or clean with liquids having a flash point of less than 38ºC (100ºF). Flash point is the temperature at which a fluid can produce enough vapor to ignite.

Refer to coating manufacturer’s recommendations for thinning the product to be sprayed.

If you are having trouble with the spray pattern, you may be able to thin down the coating (within manufacturers specification). Alternatively, warming the temperature of the coating slightly will help the sprayer to better atomise the paint.

Yes, you can use a 2,000 Watt generator but you must disable the idle-down feature.

This isn’t an automotive quality finish sprayer, so it will not produce a showroom finish such as what you would generally want on a car.

The Brilliant spray attachment is best used on your fine finish projects such as spraying cabinets, furniture, doors, trim etc. It will provide a smoother, finer finish than the iSpray and standard attachments. Depending on your material, the Brilliant Spray Attachment may require some thinning of your material in order to spray properly.

The Flexio series will spray water-based or oil-based paints and stains.

Do not spray or clean with liquids having a flash point of less than 38ºC (100ºF), reference the paint can. Flash point is the temperature at which a fluid can produce enough vapor to ignite.

This will depend on which front end is being used, along with the specific coating and temperature conditions.

The iSpray attachment – This front end will not require thinning for most materials.
The Standard spray attachment – This front end may require thinning.

If you are having trouble with the spray pattern, we would recommend thinning down the coating, or warming the temperature of it in order for it to more easily be atomised by the sprayer.

When cleaning, use the appropriate cleaning solution (warm, soapy water for latex materials; mineral spirits for oil-based materials). Always check the back of the paint container for appropriate cleaning solution.

For more information on cleaning your paint sprayer, see our helpful videos on the product page for your specific product.

Yes, the Flexio series are indoor and outdoor sprayers.

Yes, you can. For the handheld sprayers (Flexio 590), we recommend keeping the maximum tilt of the sprayer to a 45 degree angle to avoid any chance of paint getting back into the turbine.

The stationary Flexio 690 and 950 are the preferred options for ceilings, as the gun is separate from the turbine and can be tilted back farther.

When spraying ceilings, ensure that the paint suction tube (located inside pot of the spray attachment) is facing to the rear of the unit, so that it is collecting paint from the lowest point within the container once tilted.

Parts can be purchase through your local retailer, Wagner online or by calling us direct at 1800 924 637.

Troubleshooting

The breather hole on the top of the suction tube is mostly likely blocked. Try removing the suction tube, cleaning thoroughly and once re-installed, give it another shot.

If that has not worked, it could be that the small blue diaphragm in the clear ventilation hose (on the top of the spray attachment) may have been installed upside down. Pop one end of this hose off, and re-install the diaphragm the other way.

This could be a few things:

  • Is the suction tube attached tightly? If so, it could be sucking in air, causing the problem.
  • Try depressing the pusher valve on the side of the inlet housing, as the ball may be stuck.
  • Has the sprayer been used before? If not, it may have old paint stuck on the valves from the last time it was used.
  • What paint are you using? If it is too thick, or too cold it may need to be thinned out with water or turps.

If any of these don’t fix the problem it may be more serious inside the machine and need to be inspected by a service centre.

What tip have are you using in the gun and what type of paint? it is important that smaller tips are used for thinner products, and larger tips for thicker ones. If you are trying to reduce the flow rate, simply changing down tips sizes may not work (eg. using a 311 tip with a thick acrylic paint).

  • Is the gun filter attached to the unit ? If it is which filter is in it?
  • Ensure this filter is inserted the correct way.
  • Cold paint is much harder to spray, so bring the temperature of the paint up by sitting the tin in a bucket of hot water, and thin down by 10% with warm water.

If the pump is working but the problem is happening at the tip, we know the unit is fine and it is paint related. Best to call our customer service team on 1800 924 637, and we can help you through the process!

This is common in pumps that have been used previously, but were not cleaned properly.

The valves inside the pump may need a good clean as there could be some old dry paint or a foreign object keeping them from operating properly. If it has had a lot of use the pump may need to have a repair kit put through it as the packing may be worn. This can then be inspected by a service centre to verify.

Paint

When in doubt, we recommend checking the technical data sheet of the paint to check the volume solids, as well as the clean-up method. You can also call the paint manufacturer to gain more information about a certain product if the information isn’t in the data sheet.

Have you tried testing the unit with water? If water goes through the unit smoothly, it may be that the paint isn’t suitable for the unit you’re using.

DIY products are generally not suited to 2 pack paints, as they have plastic components that will wear prematurely. In addition, the flash points of solvent based products can be a safety hazard when used incorrectly / with the wrong sprayer.

Please get in touch with our customer service team and they can give you an answer specific to your product.

Yes you can, but to ensure a great finish, follow these recommendations:

If using water based paints, any spray attachment can be used, as long as the paint is the correct viscosity for the sprayer.

For oil based paints, do not use the direct feed or i-spray attachments, as the oils can weaken the PVC hoses, and cause them to break. Likewise, the slot nozzle will give a poor finish, as it puts out too much volume for such a light weight material.

The standard spray attachments that come with these models are a great alternative, and will give the user a nice smooth finish instead. For the absolute best finish, try the Brilliant Spray attachment, which has an even finer spray pattern for a high gloss finish!

Spraying

The absolute minimum sized unit we recommend for standard roof paints is the Control Pro 350m.

If for commercial use or using a specialised roof paint, we would need to see the Data Sheet of the product they are wanting to spray before we can make a recommendation. Please give us a call and we can talk you through it

This may be due to dried paint blocking the nozzle. Begin by pulling the trigger slightly, so the airflow begins. With just the air coming out, use a small hard object (such as a paint stirrer tool), to scratch at the nozzle opening on the front of the sprayer. The air will help to blow the dried paint out of the way as you loosen it.

Test spray on some cardboard to see if it has worked.

Wagners DIY range of products are not suitable for automotive work, however our range of Conventional Spray Guns (HVLP) from C.A.Technologies are perfect for the task.

Please contact our customer service team and we can recommend a suitable set up for your requirements.

General Information & Helpful Tips

Weight is 45 GSM (grams per square metre), and thickness is 74 MU (measurement unit – used to measure area).

No we are not.

When in doubt, we recommend checking the technical data sheet of the paint to check the volume solids, as well as the clean-up method. You can also call the paint manufacturer to gain more information about a certain product if the information isn’t in the data sheet.

Certain units, such as the Control Pro 250M and above, need to be taken to a registered repair agent to be looked at, meaning we do not do straight swaps for these units.

Of course we can! If you haven’t already given it a try, our Sprayer Selector should help to narrow down a sprayer for your project.

Alternatively, please give us a call! Our friendly customer service team are always happy to help with product enquiries or more technical questions too. They can be reached at 1800 WAGNER (1800 924 637), on Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Before starting, please make sure you carefully read the manual to ensure your Wagner sprayer is setup correctly, and everything is tight and attached properly.

Have a practice spray on some scrap cardboard to get a feel for it, and dial in the correct air and material flow settings before beginning on your work area.

Wagner sprayers in Australia and New Zealand are designed for use on a 220V circuit. As such, sprayers from international markets that use 120V will not work in Australia.
